Allow me to Re-introduce Myself

This is my neighborhood.

Okay, I know I said I wasn’t going to start posting every day, and I still stand by that- this has got to be some kind of weird fluke or something. It’s just that I have been having SO MUCH fun here lately! I have been finding all kinds of new blogs to follow, and enjoying so many new posts. Also, I have gotten a ton of new followers and my stats have been robust and incredibly satisfying. You know what I love? I mean, I obviously love having lots of visitors- I’m human, after all. But I love it when I have, say 80 visitors and like 120 views…of course, 900 visitors and 1,050 views would also work, but you get the picture. That means that a few people liked my blog so much that they kept reading and reading and reading. So cool.

I thought it would be neat to just kind of give an updated overview of my life, as it is today, and what my corner of the world looks like. I would LOVE it if some of my blogging friends did the same. It is a bit like travelling without leaving home, getting to read about the homes of others. So if you feel so inclined, please share something about your life in the comments, or write a whole post about it. I would like that very much.

Me, obviously. Being photo bombed by Cam.

So, about me. I’m 43. Chronically and bewilderingly single. I have two children, one an adult of 21, one an adult of 8. Just kidding, but seriously, she’s more mature than I am some days. I adore my kids, but I struggle a lot with my relationship with my eldest. One thing you should know about me is that I am, after a life-long struggle with drug addiction, happily clean and sober. It’s only been about 3.7 years since I’ve been clean. My older daughter lived through some SHIT with me, you see. Parenting is hard under the best of circumstances. Learning to parent a nearly adult child this late in the game, with so much baggage, guilt (me) and anger (her)…it’s rough. I am doing my best. I write about that sometimes. I also write about recovery, how amazing it is to get to be my real self- or learn who that is, sometimes- and lots and lots of other things. I struggle with anxiety and other things, so that makes it in here, and so many other odds and ends. I hope you read something that keeps you hanging around.

Point Lobos, one of my favorite spots to stroll around

I live smack dab in the middle of the West Coast, in Monterey County- home of the famous aquarium and right next door to Big Sur. The cost of living here is outrageous, but it’s home, and I am blessed to call it that…for now. I don’t know how long I’ll be sticking around. I really want to buy a home, and that’s nearly an impossible dream around here. I’m also in LOVE with the East Coast, and will be going to Maine in June to scout it out. I love the idea of adventure and change, though I don’t do so well with either in reality. LOL.

A recent sunset. Ridiculously beautiful.

Monterey is gorgeous. Miles and miles of beaches- any kind you might want. Sandy, rocky, dramatic, calm. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets, fresh air, hiking spots and hidden coves, an endless dream of fog and sunlight. You cannot leave this place without longing to come back. I know, I’ve tried. I’m still holding out hope that I’ll find another place, just as spectacular, that costs a little teensy bit less. In the meantime, I’ll continue to enjoy my days here, sipping strong, strong coffee, and getting up way too early to work on my novel, post here, meditate and daydream.

That’s my life in a very, very limited scope. I hope to learn something new about all of you as well! Have a wonderful, speedy rest of the week. ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm a single mom living life fully after years of intense addiction, trying to navigate life with grace-and failing spectacularly, sometimes. Learning to be a grown up In my 40's, without losing my lust for life, or my faith in humanity. Come, watch the antics. It should be fun (for you, at least).

    1. Oh man, there’s nothing cooler than showing up to someone else’s blog and seeing I’m being talked about in the comments section haha. So glad my post pushed some people in your direction!

Steps to add a link to a post:
      1. Copy the url link from whatever you want to link to
      2. Highlight a word/words in your post that you want people to click on
      3. Click the paperclip looking symbol in your Editor
      4. Paste the url link you previously copied

Sorry if I over-explained it! Hope that helps in the future!

  1. It sounds beautiful where you live. Im from Nebraska, smack dab in the middle of a damn corn field, but hey its home right? Ive always wanted to move away but not sure how successful I would be. The cost of living is so cheap here im not sure I could imagaine living anywhere else because no matter which direction I go, it gets more and more expensive. I look forward to reading your blog and enjoying the pictures you share of your surroundings.

    1. Thank you! The funny thing is, you just get used to the cost, no matter where you are. Iโ€™m sure you could make a lovely life for yourself wherever you chose to go. You just have to make up your mind. โค๏ธ

      1. Donโ€™t be hard on yourself! We each do things in our own time-when youโ€™re ready to do something, you will! โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ Iโ€™m a super late bloomer. Life is just now getting really good for me, and I finally feel like I know what Iโ€™m doing most of the time. And Iโ€™m 43! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

      2. I think society has everybody thinking they need to have their whole lives figured out in your 20s. Im 25 and feel completely lost. Im just shooting for 35, if life is good by 35 ill be okay with that. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Awesome to get to know you a little better! As a new follower, I always check out someone’s “about me” page first before following but sometimes I just want to know more! haha! I’ll have to do one of these myself over the next few days since I’ve had a lot of new followers too.

  3. You live in a beautiful part of the country. I always say if I could do it all over again, I would relocate to Northern California but I enjoy Florida and am originally from the New York area. Pleased to meet you. Somewhere I have a brother and some family in California who I hope to visit one day.

  4. Congratulations on your recovery. That is the best news. Take it one day at a time. Happy to see you are writing. Creating is the best drug in the world. It takes our minds to so many places. Enjoy the characters and the places they will take you.

    Excellent site you’ve created.

  5. Glad to find out more about you. Sounds like life has been a rocky ride, hope things stay on a good path from now on.

I did a double-take at that photo. Point Lobos looks so much like some parts of our coast on Vancouver Island. I immediately thought of Witty’s Lagoon or the trail by Ucluelet. Uncanny.

I’m originally from Britain, now living just outside Victoria, BC with my wife and 2 children (technically 1 now, our eldest moved out last year). Public servant by day, sci-fi novelist by night. I would love to hear more about your writing.

    P.S. following via Blogger.

      1. Just this morning, another WordPress user alerted me that the blog link I’d given when commenting on their blog was complaining about being unsecure. Somehow a “www.” had got added in to the URL and that seems to be causing a problem. I checked and I see the same thing happened when I commented here. Hopefully I’ve managed to fix it on this comment. The proper blog address should be:

  6. That sunset and the water look beautiful! I live on the east coast in Connecticut, and even though we have beaches, I don’t think they don’t look as pretty as that. You’re working on a novel? That’s awesome! I’m halfway-ish through writing one now but I haven’t had the time to give it the love it needs. I’m looking forward to getting to know you! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Same here! I LOVE the East Coast, especially New England. ๐Ÿ˜ I have one completed (and sent to live in a hidden drawer), one nearly finished, and one just started…and about 20 Iโ€™ve gotten different lengths of time into before abandoning. ๐Ÿ˜Š its all a process.

      1. I want to do more exploring of my own backyard in New England because it has so much to offer!

It’s truly a process. I have a bunch of unfinished stuff that I wrote in high school, but early last year I finally finished one. And I’m working on a new one now. There are some times when I’m in a groove with it and other days when I don’t want to go near it because I’m afraid I’ll ruin it haha.

  7. God, it is lovely there. Passed through twice I think, but always felt like a dream in Big Sur and never could quite arrange matters so that I could stop and just be there for some days, to really feel the place. You asked about little self-portraits… I’ve been an east coaster all my life, but moved to Canada, specifically Quebec, 12 years ago. For love and romance and adventure. It has proven a wonderful decision, leading to unexpected new directions. For one, I got deeply involved in music playing here, to an extent I only half believed I was ever capable of. And best of all, I recently became a daddy in my early 60s which proves life will entirely open up new vistas for you if you half let it. รนhere is a photo out my front door to give an idea about how things look at the moment. Good luck about Maine.

    1. Wow! How stunning! It sounds like you are having a beautiful life. โค๏ธ Mine is, as well, but I canโ€™t shake the feeling there is SO much more. Trying to enjoy what is without getting stuck. I feel like there are big things ahead. ๐Ÿคž

      1. Well, I think that is a good intuition then, so just keep your heart on it. For me, don’t want to give impression it is all fun & games, I mean it is work, but rewarding. Happy 2019. ๐Ÿ™‚
